Isamu Noguchi wrote, “Carving follows the possibilities inherent to the stone.” Beginning in the mid-1960’s Noguchi began to work spontaneously, interacting with his material and the unforeseen consequences of his process. Participants in this intensive, all-day program will spend time looking at and discussing Noguchi’s works of stone in the Museum’s galleries, and then learn techniques for working with soft stone to create their own sculptures.
Previous experience is not necessary. Space is limited and advance registration is required. $10 for members / $20 for non-members; includes full admission to the Museum. Payment is made upon arrival.
Please note, registration for Shaping Soft Stone is full. If you would like to be added to the wait list, please complete the form below. Join our mailing list for the most up to date information.
